Basketball Coaching
He entered the College of Kansas in 1985 under Larry Brown. For the 1985–1986 season, he continued at Kansas as an interim coach. Self-worked as a coaching consultant at Oklahoma State College from 1986 through 1993. Self-served three years as the head coach of Tulsa when he amassed a Tulsa-best 74-27 mark after reconstructing the Gold Eagle. He guided the Golden Hurricanes to back-to-back National Championship trips to TU. He showed the Gold Hurricanes to their Elite Eight participation, besides posting a 32–5 mark and establishing a university solitary mark with most wins. Self was recruited at Oral University in 1993, where he had his first coaching job post. Just 6 wins or triumphs were recorded by the squad during his first year at ORU. The following year, when ORU captured eleven matches, circumstances considerably enhanced. Self-led the Gold Eagle to an 18-9 mark in season 3; in season 4, ORU posted a 21-7 mark and qualified for its first playoff event.

Bill’s initial coordinator position was as an interim coach for one year under Larry Brown at Kansas State University. Before the 1986 campaign, he returned to Oklahoma State, where he stayed. Bill was hired as the team president at Oral College for the first time in 1993. From 1997 to 2000, he served as the head trainer at Tulsa and Illinois. The College of Kansas selected Bill Self as their coaching staff in 2003.
He guided the group to the Nba Game’s Elite Eight in only his first year. They were eliminated in the initial round the following season. The Heartland Regional of the Conference tournament gave Kansas the playoff spot. Kansas won their fourth Collegiate Championship Game under Self’s direction in the Title Game. To triumph, Kansas recovered deficits of 16 and 15 points at the intermission, both NCAA championship game marks.
